Salvation - "The Tethered Man"

Salvation is violence but our society is also affirmed by it.  Do violent bands beget violence, or does violence beget violent bands?  The chicken, the egg, or the creationist?  "The Tethered Man" explains nothing.  It only perpetuates the bloodletting.
